About us 2

Our story

Started by Dr. Barnaby Nye, and supported by skilled surgeons with a wide range of surgical expertise, our Christchurch practice is unique due to our diverse range of in-house surgical knowledge.

With many years of international experience and numerous advanced qualifications behind them, our surgery team chose to come together in 2021 and combine their leading skill sets to offer Christchurch a comprehensive plastic surgery solution. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional patient care and surgical results, focusing on creating the best long-term outcome for our patients.

What is an Association?

Medical care has become a team effort. Multidisciplinary practice has improved outcomes for patients and collaboration has focussed care on what is best for the patient.

Plastic Surgery associates came together from vision and necessity. After 10 years in private practice, Barnaby was aware of the challenges in delivering surgical care. He gathered his colleagues and proposed a group practice in which established surgeons could mentor and encourage other surgeons into practice. PSAL is a supportive environment where each surgeon could still develop and deliver their own specialist interest.

Since building the current day surgery facility at Avenue Health in 2016, PSAL has grown to a collegial group of five surgeons.

Developing and building a centre of excellence, PSAL has focussed on synergies that provide first-class care in a cost-sensitive environment. PSAL has worked with health funders (insurers, ACC) to develop contracts that foster collegiality over competition.

This focus on supportive practice has extended to include wound care specialist nurses and hand therapists to provide our patients with the best multidisciplinary care on-site.

All our surgeons have completed FRACS qualifications and have post-graduate training in their sub-speciality areas of choice. We also hold positions at Christchurch Hospital where we instruct plastic surgical trainees, take part in multidisciplinary panels and acute on-call plastic surgery.

PSAL is a place where medical professionals support each other to provide the best care possible.
