At Plastic Surgery Associates, we prioritise working closely with your family doctor (GP) to ensure the best possible outcomes for your health. To expedite the process and receive timely advice, we encourage patients to seek a referral from their GP or hand therapist. Even if your GP is not aware of the issue, we prefer them to be informed about any surgical procedure you've undergone. For minor skin lesions, we gladly accept direct requests from patients.
When booking your appointment, our team will guide you on the likelihood of receiving treatment during your initial consultation. If not, we will work together to plan a suitable time. We kindly ask that you bring a list of your medications to the consultation. It's essential not to stop taking any medications before your visit unless we advise otherwise.
To ensure a smooth healing process and excellent results, we offer these general postoperative guidelines.
During your recovery, it's crucial to avoid activities that may hinder your healing process. We kindly recommend refraining from smoking or consuming alcohol. Additionally, reducing your daily routine, especially strenuous physical activities, will provide your body with the necessary time to rest and recuperate.
Elevating the surgical site whenever possible brings numerous benefits, such as pain relief, reduced bruising, and minimized bleeding, which can prevent potential complications down the road.
Postoperative discomfort can be effectively managed with over-the-counter medications like paracetamol or ibuprofen. Our skilled surgeons may also prescribe stronger pain relief, tailored to your specific needs.
If you are taking blood-thinning medications or have a blood clotting disorder, please inform us prior to your surgery to ensure the best possible care and outcomes.
After your stitches are removed, we encourage the use of Vitamin E cream twice daily for three months to promote faster healing and minimize the visibility of scars. In some cases, scar-covering tape may be provided.
Follow-up appointments may or may not coincide with the suture removal. Our team will guide you through the appropriate schedule to monitor your progress and address any concerns.
While we strive for a smooth recovery, it's essential to be vigilant about potential red flags. If you experience excessive pain, abnormal swelling, or fever during your post-operative period, please contact us immediately.
We are committed to providing you with the utmost comfort and care throughout your surgical journey. Should you have any questions or require further assistance with your post-operative care, please don't hesitate to reach out to our dedicated team.
We allow time for some straightforward skin procedures at the time of your initial consultation. If the repair is complex or time consuming, we will discuss with you about appropriate timing and will book this later.
We can advise you at the time of booking your appointment about standard consultation costs and the costs of treatment. Our costs are in line with affiliated provider costs set by the major insurers.
We are affiliated providers to Southern Cross insurance and can gain approval directly through this scheme. You just need to advise us of your Southern Cross Insurance number. For other insurers we can provide you with an outline of costs for preapproval on request. Please check with your insurer prior to your consultation. At your consultation, we will provide you with an estimate and a copy of the GP referral for you to send to your insurer.
For some minor procedures it is perfectly ok to drive after surgery. Surgery on hands or legs can impair driving and some people prefer not to drive if they are anxious about surgery or have a tendency to fainting. It is imperative that you feel safe and confident to drive if you choose to do so after a procedure. We will encourage you to wait with us until we feel you are fit to drive.
